Actually! The socks are quite a match for this painted base, aren't they! Hee, hee, you've got to go to Siberia posing in your socks in front of that very Xmas tree... on the second thought, you might want something more substantial to put on! :)

I've made MORE socks this winter, I am not posting the photos anymore... I decided, at last, what I was going to do with the wool inherited from my dear grandma: more socks, and off to Amma's programs! As you know people don't wear shoes there but the floor might be cold in spite of the carpeting, so socks might be a good solution. They are, actually.

If you make up your mind to come to Barcelona, let me know! (and make sure to put the socks in your bag if it is during autumn-winter ;) )
Lara, I love your lion, it''s ""guay"" (that''s the Spanish for ""wow""). We should repeat the martini ;-) but I am off to Spain in a week, you know? If we don''t get to do it this time you will have to pop by my place ;-)

Mira, nice to hear from you! My parents don''t live near the beach but , well, one can get there... definitely.. Public transport abounds.
As I''ve said I am going back to Spain soon, this was just a visit of honour :-) - haven''t been here in Siberia for three years, meanwhile my sister got a baby so this was one of the reasons. I also saw a very dear university friend for the first time in twelve years!

I don''t remember the Frog the Traveller story very well, but it goes around a little frog convincing storks to take it with them on a journey to Africa. How? Well, she suggested that two storks should take a stick in their beaks, and the frog would hold on to the stick with its mouth. Clever, eh? As far as I remember it did work out. You know what, you got me interested, I''ll look this story up in the net and tell it to you :-) Love story telling!

Hugs, shall write more when I am back (here, my access is limited)

Here are a few:
Carrying walnuts was supposed to enable you to walk without tiring. It also prevented blisters.

The walnut is also a strong symbol of fertility. Like the Apple and the Hazel, the walnut features in ancient marriage customs and was often used as an Aphrodisiac.

In parts of Europe, including the UK there was the belief that you have to strike the nuts off a walnut tree with a stick, in order for the tree to produce a good crop the following year. This is probably closely linked with the old Indo-European idea that ‘striking’ a person, animal, or plant was a way of making it fertile. Hence the old English saying ‘A woman, a dog and a walnut tree, the more you strike them the better they be.’

Those brave enough to fell the ‘lucky’ walnut tree often claim to find a gold coin buried in its roots, suggesting that when it was planted a coin was placed in the earth as an offering to the gods.

Generally, nuts were considered extremely lucky - so a nut landing close to you is probably a sign that something lucky is on its way!
All right, a one-off occurrence would probably mean nothing, but if there are several of them, then it might be the time to stop and say: "Hey... what's going on?"
Dear Tylluan, I wonder if you have seen my post "flying nut"? You know a lot about the trees and the plants, could you share with me your thoughts on that one? i'll be very grateful.

In response to:herons talking

Fascinating post - I always believe these signs come to teach us! :)
