I liked the comment 'only by disturbing people can I make them think.' I never feel people do enough thinking these days!

Hm...
IMHO, I am afraid that it is the other way around - people think TOO much! the question is - what about?
People forever keep this inner dialog with an imaginary interlocutor - are we so afraid to be alone? I call it "a washing machine head" - one thought, then the other... A T-shirt thought, a towel thought, a jeans thought, a T-shirt thought again... no wonder so many people get depressed or crazy, they just don't give any rest to their poor brain, of course it gets exhausted!
I am in favour of constructive or productive thinking, of "know yourself" etc. thinking - but I am against of Brownian motion thinking
- why don't we give ourselves a break?

That's a very interesting distinction and I see what you mean. People DO tend to agonise too much (I call it naval gazing) often about things that don't really matter. But thinking - in the sense of really giving thought about some of the bigger issues of life... no, I still think a lot of people don't think nearly enough!
